My Life As Me

My question is “Why do you care?”

Filed under: Politics — bunchesofos @ 4:56 am

Regarding Tuesday’s Presidential election, I’m just wondering why so many Canadians care about who becomes the next American president–especially when they don’t even have a say in it to begin with?

Maybe it has to do with the Loonie being worth more than the American dollar?  That must be it.  Yes, they want the American dollar to once again rise above the Loonie so Americans will come across their borders and spend their hard earned American dollars on Canadian tourism.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

The Black Friday madness is starting! I LOVE it!

I’ll give a little plug to two of my favorite deal sites right here:  dealtaker.com and gottadeal.com

I discovered them about three years ago during the Tickle Me Elmo craze and I visit them both on a regular basis mostly for freebie deals (and believe me, I’ve gotten some GREAT stuff from both of these places!)

I can relate to how most of the people who visit these sites feel about stores holding out on the release of their BF ads too early.  After all, it IS exciting to see what each store is going to have to offer and to make your plans for all the BF shopping.

On the other hand, I CAN see how the stores feel about their sales being leaked to the public too early.  There is a competition factor that I think comes into play with a lot of them.  In that sense, I feel that a November 24 release of the BF ads is plenty of time to go over the ads and still know where to go for what.

Okay, so there is a lack of suspense and excitement…but as long as we still get to shop on BF, who cares, right? :)

If more people were like this Good Samaritan, the world would be a better place

I know I’ve never done a hero of the week on this blog, but I think I will start now.  Or at least just this once.

I read this story on CNN.com and was moved to tears by the generosity of another human being towards another.

The story was about Tracy Orr, a woman who had encountered some bad luck in her life and lost her job.  Because she lost her job, she also was not able to pay her mortgage, resulting in her home to be foreclosed.

Orr was at the house auction along with several others, including a woman named Marilyn Mock.  Marilyn struck up a conversation with Orr by asking her “Are you here to buy a house?”.  With this question, Orr began crying and pointed out her home to Mock in the auction brochure.

To make a long story short, once Orr’s house came up in the auction, Mock purchased it for $30,000 and turned the keys over to Orr.  Marilyn Mock bought back Orr’s house.

About Orr making the payments, Mock went on to say, “We’ll just figure out however much she can pay on it.  That way, she can have her house back.”

Mock went on to say, ““She was just so sad. You put yourself in their situation and you realize you just got to do something…If it was you, you’d want somebody to stop and help you.”

But Mock is getting something out of the deal too.  Orr’s house is located near a Texas fishing hot-spot.  Mock states, “She (Orr) says I can come up there and fish, and I love to fish!”

As for Orr, she says Mock has “given me back faith and hope to keep going and hold my head up…things happen for a reason.”

Is it me or is anyone else sick of hearing about Palin’s clothes?

First of all, who cares what she wears or where she got it from.  Secondly, the reports about the RNC spending all that moula to dress up her family must really bother her a lot.  Why else would she soak up precious time during her speeches to bitch about it?

If this twit was really serious about possibly being a VP candidate, she would be discussing REAL issues…like how to get the best deals on those clothes at Bloomingdales.

Ah, only a week to go…she will NOT be missed by me!

Where do the children go?

What were they thinking in Nebraska when they established a law that allows parents to abandon their children up to 18 years of age at hospitals?

What kind of parent gives up their own flesh and blood, the very child they created, because they cannot or do not want to handle the parental responsibilities any longer.  In my opinion, it is a parent who should never have been a parent in the first place.

Child rearing is a full-time, life-long job.  It doesn’t end when parents become sick of dealing with a problem child or an unruly teenager.  Maybe the parents need to take a look in the mirror and ask themselves HOW their child became a problem in the first place.  The answer would be staring back at them.

Since this “law” has been in place, 20 children have been dropped off at hospitals in Nebraska.  The most recent one was driven across country all the way from Georgia.

As a parent myself I could not imagine ever doing this to my child.  I love her too much.  I can only imagine how these children must feel about themselves, knowing their own parents didn’t want them—after giving birth to them and raising them for ten, twelve or fifteen years.  It saddens me that a parent would do this to their own child.

On the other hand, if the parents of these children are willing to just drop them off on the doorstep of a hospital, it questions me as to what kind of parents they are and makes me realize maybe in the long run these children are better off.

I hope each and every child can be given better parents than their biological parents and I hope for the rest of their lives the biological parents regret ever giving up their children.  I wonder how they would like it if their children drove them to the middle of nowhere and left them at a hospital.  Maybe they’d realize what it feels like not to be wanted.

The latest on Tom’s leg…

Regarding Tom Brady’s injury and numerous surgeries, I think if it is true that the Pats organization is upset with him for being treated on the west coast instead of under the direction of doctors of their choosing in Boston, they should (1) be glad he is being treated and that the infection was caught in time so his leg wouldn’t have to be amputated; and (2) be goddamn grateful for their 6th round 199th overall pick who has provided them with three Super Bowl wins over the past seven years.

Maybe she should’ve shopped at WalMart!

Some lucky lady is getting paid 3.1 million from Target because she paid for items there using the older style $100.00 bills.

To the cashier’s credit, they did what they should’ve and reported her (as the cashier thought it was odd she was using such old bills to pay for her stuff); however, the bills were legit and now Target has to dish out some cold hard cash for this “error”.

JMO but other than their dollar bins, I think Target sucks!

Elmo that is…

One of this year’s alleged HOT toys is supposed to be Elmo Live.  However, at $60.00 a pop, I’m not sure how anyone is going to afford good ol’ Elmo.

Mattel kept this gem under wraps for about two years and have dubbed it as “like having Elmo in your home”.  I saw the cute little furry guy the other day at Wally World and tried him out.  Of course they only have him in DEMO mode so curious parents who “oooh” and “aaah” over him will be forced to buy him to see what else he’ll do.

In DEMO he puts his hand up to his mouth like he’s going to tell you a secret.  Then he says “Elmo loves you”.  Next he takes his hand and blows kisses twice.  Kinda cute but not worth $60.00 to me.

So long Red Sox…

I know the cell phone is probably one of the greatest inventions of our time.  However, some of the places people decide to make or take their phone calls simply makes me wonder if they even know how to have a conversation face-to-face with anyone.

1.  The ladies room.  Is it really that important that you talk to whomever while doing your business?  True story:  I was in a stall, another woman was carrying on a conversation in her stall (assumingly on her cell phone); I flushed and she yelled “CAN YOU BE QUIET OVER THERE?”.  Huh?  I did my thing and I flushed–just like I’ve been doing since I was first potty trained.

2.  The supermarket/Wal-Mart.  This drives me crazy.  What the hell do you need to be talking to someone while buying bananas?  In listening to a recent conversation between a customer and who knows who, I gathered that she was just talking about everyday stuff.  Stuff she could talk about when she got home.  Like the weather.

3.  People who get into car accidents.  Being in the business for a while now, I’ve seen and heard it all.  What floors me are the ones who get into a crash and instantly call their insurance company (even before they call the police).  True conversation:

Driver:  “I just got hit ten minutes ago.”

Me:  “Do you have the other driver’s information?”

Driver:  “No.  They’ve called the police.”

Me:  “Well, you’ll need to wait for the police to arrive and obtain the other driver’s information before reporting the accident.  I will need all that information to process your claim.”

Driver:  “Really?  Can’t you just come out and look at my car right now?”

At this point I really wanted a gun…
