Got my lists all made, decisions made on what to get, what not to get.

I was hoping to hop on-line tonight (Wed/Thurs am) and get some on-line deals at TRU, however, it doesn’t seem like they actually have any of those deals right now on-line.

I may just have to tough it out and go to the actual store on Friday.

A great Thanksgiving recipe

Never too early to start your holiday baking!
Now let’s get started,

1 cup of water
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup of sugar
1 tsp salt
1 cup of brown sugar
Lemon juice
4 large eggs
Nuts
1 bottle tequila
2 cups of dried fruit

Sample the tequila to check quality.
Take a large bowl, . check the tequila again
To be sure it is of the highest quality, pour one level cup and drink.
Repeat. Turn on the electric mixer. Beat one cup of butter in a large
fluffy bowl. Add one teaspoon of sugar. Beat again.

At this point it’s best to make sure the tequila is still OK.   Try another cup… just in
case. Turn off the mixerer thingy. Break 2 leggs and add to the bowl and
chuck in the cup of dried fruit. Pick the frigging fruit up off floor.
Mix on the turner. If the fried druit gets stuck in the beaterers just
pry it loose with a drewscriver.

Sample the tequila to check for tonsisticity.   Next, sift two cups of salt. Or something. Check the
tequila. Now shift the lemon juice and strain your nuts. No
wait..strain the lemon juice and shift your nuts. Add one table. Add a
spoon of sugar, or somefink. Whatever you can find.

Greash the oven.
Turn the cake tin 360 degrees and try not to fall over. Don’t forget to
beat off the turner. Finally, throw the bowl through the window. Finish
the tequila and wipe counter with the cat.
Hm…I might try this just to see how it turns out! lol!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING Y’ALL!

The Not So Big 3

I love how the three CEOs from Ford, Chrysler and GM all flew into Washington, DC on their private jets, stated their sob stories to the government, were told “no way, no how” and then they split on their private jets back to the Land That Was Built on Motown and Cars.  Who do these three wizards think they are?  Flying around on private jets for “security” reasons–give me a break.  Trust me, if someone wants to kidnap one of them, they’ll do it, private jet or not.

These bozos could have had a great road trip to Washington.  Of course first they’d have to decide which car they would take–a Ford, Chrysler or a GM vehicle.  Wagoner would have to drive first since his company is in the worst mess.  Hell, with three of them in the car, one could drive, two could sleep, they could take turns driving and they woudn’t have even had to stop to rest–just for gas, bathroom breaks and food.  And on top of it they would’ve been able to see some parts of this great country of ours.  The very same country their companies make automobiles for.  They could drive the very same roads their cars drive on.  Think of all the jet fuel they would have saved!

I’m glad there will be no vote on the bailout.  I hope there never is.  How long did these guys think 25 bill was going to last?  Till the next jet trip?

I know there are a lot of jobs at stake with these companies losing their shirts.  And sure it’s nice the CEO’s say they are doing this for their employees, however true that may really be.  But maybe the end to the craziness needs to start at the TOP, not the BOTTOM.  The Unions are a big part of it also.  These people have been living in a dream world all these years having everything taken care of for them.  How could they have thought it would last forever?

On one hand it would be nice if the government stepped in.  Maybe they should control the Unions.  That way they would have a say in how things are done, how people are paid, how much they are paid, and help employees understand they are going to start paying for their health care coverage like everyone else.  It’s not a free ride anymore, people.  The companies you work for are in deep doo-doo with nowhere to go but DOWN.

My biggest fear with all this government bailout business is the mindset of other corporations.  When another business gets in financial trouble are they going to seek help from the government?  I work in the food industry.  Imagine if one day the food industry began having financial problems.  I shudder to think of the industry going to seek help from the government.  Same thing with any other kind of business.  Wow.  Wonder how it would go over if retailers sought governmental funds to help keep them from going bankrupt.  Maybe Circuit City should have done that–not.

I always thought the United States government was here to help the citizens of the United States.  They govern us.  I don’t think the government was established to “bail out” businesses because they bit off more than they could chew and they failed tremendously.  If they keep bailing everyone out, when the “little people” need help, where will the money be?

Heads up to all Black Friday shoppers!

I know all us BF nuts are anxiously anticipating next Friday’s big hullabaloo.  I also know we’re anxiously awaiting the OFFICIAL release of the Wally World and TRU ads.

I know these ads have been leaked (or so I’ve read on various message boards), however I have come across one message board where alleged BF ads for both of these stores have been posted.  However, upon closer examination and comparison with a 2007 BF ad, I have discovered these lists are bogus.

I can understand a store selling a few items two years in a row.  But at the same price as last year, especially with the way the economy is?  I compared 25 items and found them on the 2007 list posted on Gottadeal.com as well as on this bogus list at the same price as 2007.

I know we’re all excited about the pending sales; however we must remember to be aware of some people who claim they have a “leaked” ad (leaked from where, I don’t know) when the ad they have is actually something they bought on Ebay for a buck (true story—someone on one of these boards actually admitted they got the ad from Ebay and lo and behold, it was LAST YEAR’S ad!)

Just be patient, everyone.  We should have all the juicy merchandise information by this Sunday!  That’s plenty of time to peruse the ads and determine where you will be when and for what!

Holiday music

In keeping with the pre-holiday mood, let’s talk holiday music.  Today
I saw that a new Elvis Christmas duets CD has been released by Sony.
This CD contains Christmas songs that Presley recorded during his
career.  The twist is that they have been turned into duets with many of
today’s contemporary country artists such as Martina McBride and
Carrie Underwood.

Speaking of duets, let’s talk ODD Christmas duets.  The leader:
Bowie and Bing singing “Little Drummer Boy”.  Who the hell was the
brain trust behind this combo?  Another strange duo:  Rod Stewart and
Dolly Parton crooning “Baby It’s Cold Outside”.

With all the different versions of Christmas songs available, there are
only a select few that really stand out as true classics.  In my
opinion, the following songs performed by the particular artist listed
is the best version:

“White Christmas” – who else but Bing Crosby?

“Blue Christmas” – Elvis (Porky Pig comes in second)

“Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town” – Bruce Springsteen (I’m a
big Boss fan)

“Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire (The Christmas Song)” – Nat
King Cole (Mel Torme comes in second…only because he wrote it)

“Jingle Bell Rock” – Hall & Oates (with deep respect for Bobby
Helms)

“Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” – Brenda Lee

“O Holy Night” – Josh Groban (that kid could sing “I’m a
Little Teacup” and make it sound beautiful)

“Sleigh Ride” – instrumental version by the Boston Pops

“Jingle Bells” – by just about anyone

“Twelve Days of Christmas” – by nobody (cannot stand the
song—although the “Twelve Pains of Christmas” is always fun to
listen to)

One song I’ll never grow tired of listening to is Band Aid’s “Do
They Know It’s Christmas”.  Where else can you hear Boy George
singing with Bono?

Some songs I’ve already grown tired of hearing:  Wham’s “Last
Christmas”, Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You”,
“Get Into Christmas” Elton John, “Wonderful Christmas Time”
by Paul McCartney and Wings

The shoppers are getting antsy…

That little Walmart leak last week has really gotten many in an uproar.

I know the ad is out there.  I’ve cached the listing on a few Black Friday sites.  Some people were saying that the ads were errors and that they were actually LAST year’s ads.  However, in comparing notes from the CNN leak, these ads DID list the GE microwave for $25.00 and the Hannah Montana doll for $10.00, as well as the Samsung plasma HDTV for $798.00.  But there were also a lot of things on this alleged 2008 ad that did appear on 2007’s ad.  So I’m not completely sold that the ad listings I’ve seen are accurate; It’s either that or Walmart keeps reselling the same old shit year after year and adds in a few newbie things to try to get every psyched up.  Could be.

Anyway, I guess we’ll all just have to wait until Sunday for the big unveiling of this year’s Walmart ad.  After all this waiting and and anticipation from everyone, including the little “teaser” (which to me was not much of a teaser–kids clothes priced between $4.00 and $8.00?  I can get clothes for that price NOW at Walmart–where’s the deal there?)–the wait better damn well be worth it.

Speaking of Black Friday, I do have to mention that I made out like a bandit last night at Sears’ Friends and Family night.  I bought my little one TWO pairs of sleeper pj’s (w/the feet) which normally would go for $20.00, marked half-off (that’s TWO in a package for TEN bucks!) PLUS 10% off of that!  In addition, I got hubby two dress shirts on sale for $21.99 with 10% off on those too!  I was thrilled!

Sears has a DVD/VCR combo advertised for BF for $49.99.  Unless Wally World has one cheaper than that, Sears is where I’ll be buying it.

Some of the BF deals at Walmart from last year that I hope they have this year (or similar ones anyway):

men’s jeans (can’t recall what kind–but my husband doesn’t care!) – $7 and change last year (can’t recall the exact price)

A deal on towels would be nice also.

and I’m pricing hippity hops and medical kids for my kid also.  At least I know TRU has them if I can’t find them at Wally World.

So Wally World leaked to CNN…

After they bitched and moaned and sent threatening we’ll-sic-our-lawyers-on-you-if-you-post-our-Black-Friday-ad-on-your-site letters, Walmart went ahead and revealed BF deals they are going to be having on several items to the news network CNN.  This is after they said nothing would be leaked until November 24. Go figure.

Some of the deals:  doorbuster deals offered between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. including a 50-inch Samsung plasma HDTV ($798), Magnavox Blu-ray player ($128), Xbox 360 ($199) sold with free Guitar Hero III Legends of Rock game and wireless guitar, HP Pavilion desktop computer ($398) and a UniFlame gas grill ($175).  These are deals?  I’ll never understand why any human being needs a TV larger than 20″.  The picture is still the same.  But if you have $798.00 lying around and want to blow it on a 50-inch TV, be my guest.

The one that worries me is the GE microwave for $25.00.  My first question is:  how big is it?  Second question, how long will it last?

The article went on to state that due to the poor economy, last week Walmart stated they would offer more discounts on thousands of products over the next seven weeks.  Well, I shop at Wally World every week and I have yet to see any lower prices on anything.

Right now the two main places on my BF list are Sears and Wally World–depending on what Wally has to offer, of course.  I’m looking for a new DVD/VHS player and right now Sears is the only one offering one for $49.99.  Unless Wally comes out with one also (hopefully lower priced), I’m going to have to go with Sears.

ZITO’S BACK!

What a pleasure to turn on WODS this am to discover what I had been hoping would happen HAS happened–Chris Zito has now landed a gig alongside Karen Blake.  A true radio match made in heaven!

Ever since Zito’s departure from the other radio station (no names mentioned but it starts with a “W” and ends in an “O” and is located in Worcester…), I’ve been anxiously waiting to see where Zito would end up.  After he left the “other” station I began doing some searching and discovered that Karen was now doing mornings on WODS but had no real partner (no offense Bob Lobel).  After reading further that WODS now had the PD from the “other” station, I kind of started putting the building blocks together and really, truly PRAYED Zito would end up at WODS.  AND HE HAS!  YEAH!

Up until November 6 when WODS began playing all Christmas music, I was still listening to that “other” station.  However, I’ve been strictly listening to WODS since the Christmas music began and I intend to keep listening to them after the Christmas music ends.

Zito, welcome back to the Boston market and it’s GREAT to hear your humor on the airwaves once again!  You and the Blakester are going to be dynamite!  Thanks for making my day!
